Mysteries still exist

If mysteries still exist in piano manufacturing, they are surely present in the art of construction of the sounding body. Schimmel sounding bodies are well-balanced compositions of cast iron and wood: solid but sensitive and based on well-founded scientific know-how and a long-established tradition. The sounding bodies for concert grands are manufactured with the aid of the worldwide unique Trilogy Concept. The cast iron frame is the backbone of the strung back assembly, supporting the tension exerted by the strings (approx. 40,000 lbs). Schimmel cast iron frames are CAPE* designed and “High Precision Processed”. The back post assembly provides the foundation for the soundboard and simultaneously forms the lower half of the equilibrium of forces between the cast iron frame and back post.
