Each Schimmel keyboard and action assembly is a work of art and precision: over 10,000 individual wooden, metal and felt elements are carefully coordinated, assembled and perfectly regulated by Schimmel's master craftsmen. The keyboard provides direct access to the heart of the instrument. What appears to be simple is however highly complex; for this reason, Schimmel manufactures its own keyboards and combines these with a top-class piano mechanical action assembly to produce the “Schimmel-Spielwerk” [keyboard and action assembly]. Mechanical action is the term for the complicated system of levers which transfer the movement of the keys to the hammerheads which in turn strike the resonating strings, setting these in vibration.
